Arcia Homers But Braves Fall Short

WEB Arcia Homers But Braves Fall Short

Atlanta Falls 5-4 to Dodgers in Series Opener

Orlando Arcia went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs, but the Atlanta Braves fell 5-4 to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the series opener Wednesday night at Truist Park.

Arcia's solo homer in the bottom of the fourth inning gave the Braves a 2-0 lead, but the Dodgers came back to tie the game in the fifth on a two-run homer by Max Muncy.

The Dodgers took the lead for good in the sixth inning on a two-run single by Chris Taylor. The Braves got one run back in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Austin Riley, but they couldn't complete the comeback.

Arcia Continues to Lead NL in All-Star Voting

Despite the Braves' loss, Arcia continues to lead all National League shortstops in All-Star voting.

Arcia has received over 4 million votes, which is more than the Mets' Francisco Lindor and the Padres' Xander Bogaerts.

Arcia's popularity is likely due in part to his strong performance this season. He is batting .310 with 14 home runs and 53 RBIs.

Arcia Credited with Inspiring Bryce Harper

After the Braves' win over the Phillies on Monday, Arcia reportedly shouted "Atta boy, Harper!" in the Braves' clubhouse.

Two days later, Harper hit two homers in Game 3 of the NLDS against the Cardinals.

Whether or not Arcia's encouragement had anything to do with Harper's performance is unknown, but it's certainly a fun story.
